Dogliani was first created as a DOC appellation in 1974, it was later on promoted to DOCG by 2005. The hilly area is located on the southern side of Piemonte, on the foothills of Ligurian Alps. Under the appellation’s compliance, there are over 400 hectares of vineyards planted. All of them are Dolcetto vines, as the laws require. The area considers to be the home, and argubly best appellation for Dolcetto production. It can be furthur subdivided into 76 menzioni geografiche aggiuntive (MGA) including 21 commune names.
The producer, the Chionetti family’s deep-rooted connection to viticulture can be traced back to the Langhe region. Their earliest endeavors were centered in Bastia Mondovì. The works in th dawn days were primarily focused on cultivating and selling grapes, particularly Dolcetto. It was in the early 1900s that a segment of the family moved to Dogliani. It was there, Giuseppe Chionetti completed the purchase of the farmhouse and first vineyards in San Luigi in 1912.
The western side of the San Luigi valley, where this wine comes from, is characterized by a gentle slope that has facilitated the accumulation and evolution of the soil. The soil is on the surface reddish, clayey, tenacious, and fertile, imparting a pleasant and immediate aroma to our Dogliani San Luigi.

Every year, Chionetti produces about 30 000 bottles of Dogliani with the San Luigi designation. The harvest and alcoholic fermentation typically happens in September. It is aged for approximately one year from the harvest until sale. The wine is not filtered.
