Vermentino di Gallura is currently the sole DOCG level appellation on the island of Sardegna. (Sardinia in English) The appellation is located on the Northern side of the island, was first established as a DOC appellation in 1975, elevated to DOCG by 1996. As of 2024, there are 1416 hectares of this appellation under vines.

The law requires wines made under this appellation to be at least 95% Vermentino.

Sella & Mosca was founded by two Piedmontese adventurers. One of them is an engineer, other one a lawyer. They looked at the uncultivated land with new eyes. They fell in love and created Sella & Mosca. In 1899, the recovery of this land started and gave way to the beauty of the vines, aromas and colours of the grapes.

Sella & Mosca cultivates its grapes on the slopes of the south side of Mount Limbara.  Much of the soils are characterized by broken-down granitic rubble and a hot climate, but with excellent temperature variations during the summer. The vines are cordon pruned, at the density of 4000 vines per hectare.

Vermentino vines grown along the slopes of Mt. Limbara are exposed to both cool sea breeze and gentle sunlight.

In the cellar, the grapes are soft-pressed, cold-macerated lightly and then left to ferment for an extended period. Usually around 4 months on fine lees. The resulting white wine is extraordinarily expressive, fresh and delicious. The bright straw yellow color announces captivating aromas, as refined as they are pronounced. Rich in fruited notes, it smoothly progresses to hints of potherbs, flowers and shrubs. In the mouth it begins smoothly but with considerable complexity, enlivened by a brilliant acidity that gives it depth and extension. The wine has an alcohol strength of 14%, 5.9g per liter of total acidity.
